Which Material is the Best for Decking?

Over the past few years, the number of different materials available to build your deck has grown in an exponential fashion.  With that being said, there are some materials that are considered to be better due to their maintenance, aesthetics, and price.

If you are planning on doing any type of decking system installations in the near future, you will want to make sure that you use one of the materials listed below.  Here are the most popular types of decking materials, including which one is best for your individual needs.

Pressure Treated Lumber

Considered to be the most affordable decking material option, pressure-treated lumber is actually the most popular for decking in the entire country.  This is due in part to the fact that it is not only affordable, but is some-what durable, easy to come by, and can be stained in just about any color you choose.

Cedar and Redwood

Coming in second to pressure treated lumber, Western red cedar and redwood are also great options for building your deck.  Praised for the beautiful and rich color they possess, both cedar and redwood are all natural and not pumped full of any preservatives or chemicals.  On top of that, they are both naturally resistant to insects, rot, and decay.

A material that has quickly become the fastest growing material sold for decks, composite decking is a combination of wood dust and recycled plastic.  Once these two materials have been combined, they are then molded into dense, long planks.
